The Episcopal Vicariate for Pastoral Coordination was established in light of the Synod of Bishops that ended in October 2024, where Pope Francis emphasised the importance of synodality in the life and mission of the Church.

The Vicariate is responsible for assisting the Bishops in implementing the vision and priorities of the Church in Malta and in coordinating pastoral life and work within the Archdiocese. This is achieved through continuous work with the vicariates, and other entities of the same Archdiocese that take care of the various tasks and needs of the Church.

Among other things, the Vicarate is also responsible for ensuring that the Church’s entities, parishes, commissions and groups are working together to renew themselves so that the pastoral work of the Church in Malta remains relevant and sustainable in the coming years for the good of society.
